Thomas E. McKinney

Thomas E. McKinney, 82, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, in Roswell, NM. Please take a moment and share a kind thought or memory with Thomas’ family at www.andersonbethany.com. There will be a Graveside Service at McBride Cemetery on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. On August 23, 1942, Thomas was born to Thomas and Annie McKinney of Summerville, SC. He attended Mooreville High School, Miss. where he graduated in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on January of 1961 and served until August of 1981, where he was honorably discharged from the military. During that time, he was serving his country, he fought in Vietnam and was awarded The National Defense Service Award and the Vietnam Service Award. His military assignments included; Vietnam, Walker AFB, NM., Kirtland AFB, NM., Bitburg AB, Germany., March AFB, CA., lastly Yokota AB, Japan in which he retired from military service in 1981. He also served for the State of New Mexico, Taxation and Revenue Department starting in Albuquerque, NM beginning in 1985 and running the State Taxation and Revenue Department in Roswell, NM, for Otero and Chavez counties, then retiring sometime in 2004. He married Dolores Olguin, who was the true love of his life. He loved to play golf at the local golf courses, especially Spring River golf course here in Roswell, NM. His favorite sports teams were the NFL Denver Broncos; Collegiate: Ole Miss. University, Miss. and Clemson University, South Carolina Thomas will be missed by his family and friends. Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Thomas are his wife, Dolores L. McKinney; children: Michael (Barbara) Wilmore of Las Cruces, NM and Phillip Wilmore of Roswell, NM; brother, James (Tomoko) McKinney of Camas, WA; nieces and nephews: Steven McKinney of Tuscaloosa, AL, Sylvia McKinney or Fort Worth, TX, and Sherry McKinney of Camas, WA; great nieces and nephews: Briana McKinney of Camas, WA, Thavian McKinney of Camas, WA, Madelein McKinney of Tuscaloosa, AL, Grace Beck of Fort Worth, TX; and great-great nephew, Chip McKinney of Camas, WA. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Annie McKinney. The family of Thomas wishes to extend sincere thanks to the sisters at Poor Clare Monastery, Father Larry and all those in our community for their prayers and support. Thomas’ tribute was lovingly written by his family.
