Vilis "Bill" Sauskis

Vilis A. (Bill) Sauskis, 89, passed on Saturday, December 21, 2019, peacefully at his home. He was born to Peter and Julija Sauskis on December 9, 1930, in Elksni, Lavita, Europe. Vilis and his family immigrated to the USA in 1950, sponsored by the Catholic Church. Bill entered the USA Airforce and was stationed at Walker Airforce Base in Roswell, New Mexico. He met the love of his life, Aneda (Ann) Savedra from Tinnie, New Mexico. Bill and Ann married on February 11, 1956, and made their home in Roswell. Their union lasted sixty-three years and brought them, three daughters. Mary Ann, Aina, and Kathryn. Bill was a jack of all trades and a masterful mechanic. He could fix anything or break it beyond recognition. He had a long career as a Mechanical Tech. Bill worked eighteen years for Desmond Ford. He then retired after twenty years with Transwestern Pipeline Company. Bill was fortunate to retire at the age of fifty-five, so he and Ann went fishing. They spent many wonderful years at Lake Amistad with lots of close friends. Bill liked to hunt, fish, camp, grow his pecans, peaches, and tomatoes. He always had a project and we loved his unique repairs. Dad taught us all how to take care of things from the school of hard knocks. . . a true Man's Man. SURVIVORS: Those left to carry on Bill’s memory are his wife, Aneda (Ann) Sauskis; Mary Ann and Robert Stacey, Aina and Katy Sauskis; along with several grandchildren, great children, nieces, and nephews; Vilis and Susan Catman, Kira and Steve Rafuse, Bobby and Mandy Sauskis, and Valentine Duttle. PRECEDED: Vilis is preceded in death by his parents and siblings. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his honor to The Poor Clare Monastery. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held by Deacon Martinez on Friday, January 3, 2020, 10:00 AM, at General Douglas L. McBride Veterans Cemetery located within South Park Cemetery. There will be a reception after the ceremony at the family home, 718 Apple Lane, Roswell, New Mexico. In loving memory from your family: Quietly I am remembering you in the silence of my heart. Each thought of you a treasure while we are apart. At times I am filled with longing, your face I would love to see. To feel your warmth, to hear your voice, to have you here with me. But God has a plan; He created you and numbered all your days. May He hold you in His loving arms and surround you with his grace. With the hope of a reunion in Heaven again one day.
