Arthur G. Luna

Arthur G. Luna passed away peacefully in his sleep at his son and daughter-in-law’s house, at the age of 76, on Monday, May 27, 2024. There will be a Viewing for Arthur at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory on Sunday, June 2, 2024, from 2 pm to 5 pm with a Rosary to be recited at 5 pm, followed by a memorial video and sharing memories of Arthur. There will be a Funeral Mass at St. John’s Catholic Church on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 10 am. Arthur will be buried at McBride Cemetery in Roswell, NM. Arthur G. Luna was born on September 8, 1947, to Manuel T. and Trinidad G. Luna in Dexter, NM. Arthur was known by many and had lots of friends but preferred his alone time. When he was around, he was a very quiet and serious person who was always observant and with never more than a few words to say. The less he had to talk the better off he was. In his younger days, Arthur enjoyed boxing, and did it for many years. At one point he even won the Golden Glove Trophy Award, which he was very proud of and would often show it to those he met. Arthur was a pretty laid back and humble person who was just loving life, never bothering anyone. One thing about Arthur, he was a very hard worker. Having a job and being responsible was very important to him all his life. Arthur started off hauling hay for many years to provide for the family home. He later went and worked for Nova Bus Co. as a welder until the company closed. From there he started working with the City of Roswell in the Parks and Recreation Department until retirement. After work there was not much he did for entertainment or took much interest in. His favorite pastime was sitting around doing absolutely nothing but watching TV. For Arthur there was no happiness without a TV remote to watch the history channel. His TV even quit working a couple of days before his passing. We laugh and just think he couldn’t go without taking his TV with him. Arthur did some traveling in his older years to a few different countries. He went on a couple of cruise trips and would sometimes tell us about his trips and how much he enjoyed them. That didn’t happen very often but every now and then when we would get more than a couple of words out of him. Arthur served in the Army National Guard as a Sergeant during 1977 to 1985. Those left to cherish his memories here on earth are his son and daughter in law: Artie and Martha Luna and their children, Sonny (Raquel), and Jeremy (Mariah) Luna and Amber Herrera; their grandchildren: Andrew and Leila Luna. His daughter Emma Luna of Clovis, NM, her children, Esmeralda and Antoinette Trejo and Anthony Eliyco. Her grandchildren: Christopher, Juliette, Adrian, Gabby, and Xavier. His brothers, Joe (Sally) of San Antonio, Texas, Jessie of McAlland, TX, Manuel (Makayla) and Armando (Mary Lou) of Roswell; sisters: Mary Vega (Albert) of San Antonio, TX and Gloria G. Castro of San Diego, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents: Manuel and Trinidad Luna; sister, Hope Luna; sisters-in-law: Martha, and Lorena; granddaughter, Esmeralda Estella Chavez; and the mother of his children, Estella C. Soto. A special thanks goes out to Interim Hospice, especially Lupe and Tawnya. It was a short ride, but you all were awesome. Pallbearers: Amber Herrera, Roberta Muñoz, Anthony Eliyco, Isreal Luna, Joe Luna, and Richard Luna. Honorary Pallbearers will be his great grandchildren. His obituary was written by his one and only daughter-in-law who shared his same birthday.
