Funeral services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2008, at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home & Crematory for August Elaine Kuykendall, age 86, of Capitan, formally of Dexter, who passed away at home Tuesday, May 20, 2008 surrounded by the love of her family. Rev. Stephen Deutsch of the First Presbyterian Church of Dexter will officiate. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Elaine was born in Snyder, Texas, May 2, 1922 to Benjamin Artist and Celia August Frazier. She graduated from Roswell High School in ¬¬¬1939, and then attended North Texas State Teachers College as a scholarship student majoring in Music. She was married in San Antonio, Texas, October 11, 1940 to Martin Lafayette “Fate” Kuykendall. They were married 60 years before his death in 2000. Elaine was a devoted wife and mother. She taught private music lessons, served as Choir Director at Dexter Baptist Church, and blessed large numbers of people with her music performances in the Roswell Symphony Orchestra and other special events over the many years that she lived in Dexter. Elaine was a faithful and loving servant of the Lord and has deeply touched the lives of her family, students and many others too numerous to mention. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Linda Warren and her husband, Jim of Capitan; two sons Larry and his wife, Rae Ann of Dexter and Ben and his wife, Audrey of Taos; a sister Elissa Mae Phillips and her husband, Richard of Lincoln; six grandchildren Lee McDaniel and his wife, Kathy of Rio Rancho, James McDaniel of Ft. Sumner, Kelly Hardaway and her husband, Todd of Midland, Rachel Frecka and her husband, Andrew of Perm, Russia, Terah Montoya and her husband, Donny of San Antonio, and Sarah Kuykendall of San Antonio; nineteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Lee McDaniel, James “Dexter” McDaniel, Dexter McDaniel, Matthew Sedillo, Donny Montoya and Todd Hardaway. Honorary pallbearers are Michael McDaniel, Richard Phillips, Rick Phillips, Kirk Phillips, Earl Hammett, Mark Sedillo, Eric Sedillo, Lloyd Stone, Esther Ehlert and Dorothy Herring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Baptist Children’s Home, 1032 Children’s Dr., Portales, NM 88130.
