Carlos Lucero

A Rosary will be Recited on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016, at 11 a.m. also at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home with Burial to follow at South Park Cemetary. Carlos was born August 1, 1937, in Arabela, NM to Miguel and Anna Lucero. He passed away on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, brothers Ruben Lucero, Armanante Lucero, Doroteo Lucero, Leonel Lucero & Amable Lucero; sisters, Elizer Mirelles and Cecilia Salas. Also preceding him in death were great-grandchildren, Joseph Herrera Jr & Neiahmiah Gonzales, son in law, Lee Quintana and special hunting partner, Albert Lucero. Survivors include his wife, Anastacia Lucero, of 62 years. In addition, he is survived by his daughters, Kathy Lucero of Roswell, NM, Cecilia Salgado (Emilio) of Roswell, NM, Rosemary Quintana of Albuquerque, NM, Corina Groseclose (Kevin) of Las Vegas, NV, sons, Roland Lucero of Roswell, NM and Charlie Lucero of Roswell, NM. Carlos is also survived by his grandchildren: Quila, Breanna, Gem, Beatrice, Matthew, Sara, Eric, Jeremy, Elisianna, Kevin, Kurtis, and Krystal. He is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren. Carlos moved to Roswell in 1972 from Dexter, NM. He worked as a construction worker for about 50 years until he retired at the age of 65. He traveled throughout NM, leaving his mark of craftsmanship along the way. He helped build the dome at the Planetarium, laid cement and brick at Pioneer Plaza and helped construct the missile silos outside of Roswell. Carlos had a love for the outdoors, taking his family on many countless camping, fishing, and hunting trips. Most recently taking one last camping trip this past September to the Lincoln National Forest. He loved his horses and always looked forward to a nice trail ride, horseback riding up to mountain tops to sleep. He was a wise man with compassion for his family – especially his grandchildren & great grandchildren, whom he greatly adored. His sense of humor lit up the lives of many, and he had a contagious smile. Pallbearers include Roland Lucero, Emilio Salgado Jr., Eric Salgado, Jeremy Salgado, Ezekiel Chaves, and Nathan Sanchez. Honorary Pallbearers include Joe Lucero, Eric Madrid, Chris Moreno, Josh McClain, Nati Garcia and Kevin Groseclose. ONE MORE DAY: Even with our progress, some things stay the same. Cattle still need brandin’, there are horses yet to tame. Cowboys will always ride, they’ll head, heel, and haze. Making lasting memories, these are their “good ol days.” As the lonesome sun is setting on our last sky of blue, we’ll think back on good times and people who helped make our dreams come true. The only favor I would ask before I am called away, is let me be a cowboy again for just one more day. Obituary was lovingly written by the Lucero family.
