Catherine “Cathy” Anderson Carr December 25, 1957 – July 12, 2025 Las Cruces, New Mexico Catherine “Cathy” Anderson Carr, 67, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, surrounded by love. Born on Christmas Day in 1957 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Cathy was the cherished daughter of Douglas M. Smith and Agnus “Nancy” Smith. She later moved to Roswell, New Mexico, where she graduated at the top of her class from Roswell High School. Cathy went on to earn her degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant from Eastern New Mexico University–Roswell. Cathy was a deeply loving and compassionate soul. She was a devoted partner to Edgar Ray Hatcher, who preceded her in death. Together, they had one daughter, Catherine Rebecca “Becca” Pardo, who was the light of Cathy’s life. Cathy’s legacy of love continues through her daughter Becca, her son-in-law Felix Pardo, and her beloved grandchildren: Scott, Shelby, and Dustin Pardo. She is also survived by her younger brother, Douglas K. Smith. Cathy had an extraordinary gift for friendship. She created a chosen family from the people she loved and who loved her dearly — Jamie Alvarado, Jo Boughton, Ofelia Pardo, Penny Cherry, Gerry Dempsey, Donald Ridlon — and so many others whose lives she touched with kindness, humor, and unwavering loyalty. She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Nancy Smith, her beloved partner and friend Ray, and a host of treasured friends and loved ones who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms. Cathy’s heart was enormous — for people and for animals alike. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to Smith Animal Clinic at 1209 S Union (575-623-4100), a place that treated her cherished cats with great care and compassion. She would be so grateful to give back to those who cared for her animals as family. Cathy’s tribute was lovingly written by her family.
