Daniel Montoya Sr.

Obituary for Daniel “Papo” Montoya Sr. A rosary will be recited for Daniel F. Montoya Sr., 61, of Roswell at 7:00 pm Friday, August 1, 2008, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Daniel at 10:00 am Saturday, August 2, 2008, at St. John’s with Father Juan Montoya O.F. M. officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Daniel passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008, surrounded by the love of his family. Daniel was born February 22, 1947 to Filimon Montoya and Manuelita Flores Montoya. He and the love of his life, Mary Maestas, were married on November 17, 1964 in Albuquerque, Mary survives Daniel at the family home. Daniel owned and operated Daniel Montoya & Son’s Trucking Co. for many years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church who loved to ride his Harley and spend time with his family and especially his puppy “Wedita”. In addition to his wife, Mary, Daniel is survived by three brothers, Lorenzo, Jim and Filimon Jr. of Roswell; one daughter, Margaret Salas and husband, Sam of Hobbs, NM; two sons, Daniel Montoya Jr. and wife, Mary of Roswell and Juan Rafael Montoya and wife, Lorene of Roswell; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Sam Jr., Monica, Daniel III, Juan Jr. Filimon, Jose, Marisa Montoya and Erica Acosta; four great-grandchildren, Joseluis, Mayelli, Santana and Henry “Hank” ; and a host of friends. We will miss you “Papo”. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Filimon and Manuelita Montoya, four brothers, Carlos, Frank, Gilbert and Louis Montoya, a sister, Rita Montoya, and his grandparents, Juan Rafael and Vivian Montoya and Vincent and Genoveva Flores. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
