Obituary for Donald Hornick Wednesday, February 24th, 2010, our beloved husband, father, Pap and friend Don Hornick Sr. passed away after a long and brave fight. He passed in the comfort of his own home in a room full of love with his family by his side. He leaves behind his wife Lois to whom he was a wonderful and caring husband of 58 years. He was a supportive, understanding and loving father to Donna her husband Bob, Don his wife Margaret, Kelly and Chip, Sandy and Patty. He was known to his grandchildren simply as “Pap” he was so very proud of all his grandchildren Michael, David, Marissa“Doc“, Marc, Miranda, Tori, Matthew, Kenny and Cole. In 2008 he became a Great Grandfather with the addition of his Great Granddaughter Luca who he was able to spend his 80th birthday with. He also leaves behind two sisters, Mildred and Nedra. He was born on February 23rd, 1930 in Johnstown PA to Milan and Freda Hornick he was one of seven children. When he was 17 years old he joined the Army and traveled the world, always returning home with amazing stories and gifts from each place he had traveled. He retired in 1967 and moved to San Diego, CA in 1975 with his family from Rome, NY where he continued to work with the Military, he was proudest of his work with the Marines during Desert Shield where he maintained the PRV‘s for the Military and discovered his love for the game of Football and his favorite team The San Diego Chargers. In 2002 he and his wife left San Diego and moved to Roswell, NM where he enjoyed new friends, painting beautiful portraits of wild life and nature scenes and wood working in fact he was a blue ribbon winner at the Roswell Fair in 2007 for his wood carvings. Services will be held on March 5th, 2010 at 2:00pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church officiated by Pastor, Onsley Whicker.
