Dorothy Ann Straley

Dorothy Straley, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed from this earth into eternal life on Friday, May 24, 2019. Please take a moment and share a kind thought or memory with Dorothy’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. Dorothy was born to J.G. & Mildred Moore on September 14, 1936, in Florence, Alabama. Her family moved to New Mexico when she was three, where she spent the rest of her life. A major portion of her life was spent in Carrizozo, NM, where she went to school and raised a family. While living in Carrizozo Dorothy worked for J.G. Moore Insurance Agency. Dorothy was the ultimate detail person, remembering everything about anything. She had a knack for numbers and affinity for reading; jigsaw puzzles, logic puzzles, and Sudoku. Her greatest love was her life partner, Lee. They married on September 19, 1954, and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. Together, they were a unit that did amazing things. Where Lee led, Dorothy supported and supplemented by keeping the books up-to-date and details straight. Their journey led them through many adventures and trials that strengthened them throughout the years. Dorothy was a lifetime devout Presbyterian, having been a founding member of Ancho Community Presbyterian Church and most recently an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed serving at Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. She was also a ruling elder, treasurer, and an active member of the women's groups. Dorothy and Lee enjoyed being members of The Enchanted Squares, every 4th of July the Club would gather at Dorothy & Lee's home in Roswell to watch the Fireworks at Cielo Grande across the pasture from their home. Dorothy also served as the treasurer for The New Mexico Square Dance Association. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lee; their children: LeAnne Byrd and husband David; G.L. Straley and wife Brenda, and Phil Straley; grandchildren: Misty Straley, George Straley, Kristin House, Kent Straley, Dwight Byrd, Kylen Straley, Matthew Straley, and McKenzie Straley; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Caden, Brooklynn, Karson, Ellie, Mason, Annabelle, John, and Brie. Dorothy had a special place in her heart for her granddaughter, Katharine, who proceeded her in death. Dorothy and Katharine are now enjoying their reunion in heaven. A celebration of life service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Roswell on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at 2:00 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2801 W. 4th, Roswell, NM. Dorothy’s tribute was written in her honor by her family.
