Edward Stephens

Funeral services for Edward Hale Stephens, 76, of Roswell, NM, will be held at 10am, Friday, June 26, 2009 at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder Bob Cates officiating. Edward passed away Monday, June 22, 2009. Military honors will be presented by the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 8am to 8pm Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the funeral home. Edward was born October 17, 1932 to Frederick Hill and Maurine Beard in Knox County, TX. He graduated from Benjamin High School and following graduation moved to Ft. Worth and worked for Convair. Edward then served in the United States Army from 1953-1955, after the service he moved to Arizona and drove a truck. He later moved to Douglas Wyoming, bought his own truck and went to work for Jims Water Service for eleven years. He moved to Roswell in 1982 where he worked for Armstrong Construction and Wylie Construction, retiring in 1990. After retiring Ed enjoyed gardening, planting trees, being in the outdoors and spending time with his brother Lynn. After experiencing life, during and after the service, Edward married his High School Sweetheart Bertha Pearl in 1981. He was a member of Country Club Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife Bertha Pearl, of the family home, two brothers; H.A. Stephens and his wife Adel of Cheyenne, WY, Ira Lynn and his wife Pat of Roswell, two sisters; Gloria Ann Price of Leander, TX, Wanda June Melton and her husband Pete of Chandler, AZ, three step-sons; Jay Eaton of Abilene, TX, Jerry Carl Eaton and his wife Jan of Ft. Worth, TX, and John Eaton and his wife Shannon of Oahu, HI, three step-daughters; Jeraine Jacque and her husband Roy of Artesia, Kathy Hinton and Linda, ten step-grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren; ten step great-great grandchildren, his former wife; Helen Hardwick, numerous nieces and nephews. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert Charles and Royce Fred Stephens.
