Eloy Widner

A rosary will be recited for Eloy C. Widner, 73, of Roswell at 7 pm, Sunday, September 20, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Eloy at 1 pm, Monday, September 21, 2009 at St. John’s with Father Juan Montoya O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-5 pm Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Anderson-Bethany. Eloy passed away Friday, September 18, 2009 at his home. Eloy was born January 21, 1936 to Thomas Widner and Erenia Cordova in Rincon, NM. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Eloy played in church choruses in Hatch, Rincon and Roswell, he enjoyed playing the guitar and keyboard while attending the Cursillos. But most of all he loved to sing and dance. He is survived by his wife Belen of the family home, three daughters; Irene Mendoza and her husband Joe of Roswell, Virginia Diaz and her husband Pete of Gonzales, CA, Alice Widner and her husband Dwight of Roswell, two sons; Fred Widner of Fayetteville NC. and Rey Widner and his wife Vanessa of Gonzales, CA, nineteen grandchildren; Joe Mendoza and his wife Mari, Stephen Mendoza and his wife Luchia, Marlena and her husband Rupert, Julian and Matthew Mendoza, Christa Mendoza and her husband Charles, Yolanda and her husband Ian, Anthony and Victoria Widner, Alma and her husband Jose, Mari and her husband Jesse, Pedro Jr. and Joshua Diaz, Joseph, Laura and Christopher Servantez, Xander Roth Widner, Cyrena Andrea Widner, twenty great grandchildren; Joseph, Mireya, Sabrina and Christian Mendoza, Roman, Ariana, Carlos Jauregui, Kyra Mendoza and Kyle Koglin, Jayden Widner, Riley Faith Buckley, Jessie., Destiny, Jesiah and Haleigh Perez, Jose Eloy and Ayme Arreola, Payton Diaz, Christopher and Andres Servantes, Antonette Gonzales, three stepsons; Albert Rendon, Louie and Tito Chavez, his Compadres; Jose and Maria Mendoza, he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his friends from the Joy Center. Eloy was preceded in death by his parents; Thomas and Erenia Cordova, one son Freddy Widner, two sisters; Manuela Hinojos and Emma Soliz, one great grandson; Demarcus Mendoza. Pallbearers will be Joe, Stephen, Julian, Matthew and Joseph Mendoza, Pedro Jr. and Josue Domingo Diaz and Dwight Hefner. Honorary pallbearers will be his son-in-laws Joe P. Mendoza and Pete Diaz, Sr., his good friends Manuel Ortega and Joe H. Mendoza and all his grandchildren.
