Ignacio John Leaton Jr

A rosary will be recited for Ignacio John Leaton, Jr. of Roswell, NM at 9:00 AM, Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church, and funeral mass following the rosary with Father Eduardo Espinosa officiating. Visitation will be at 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 at the funeral home. With burial and final resting at South Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard. He passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at ENMMC. Ignacio (Nacho), 77, was born June 22, 1937, in Roswell NM to Ignacio Lujan Leaton, Sr. and Marianna (Annie) Molina Leaton. Ignacio married Corina Aragon Leaton on February 3, 1957, and together they had seven children; Michael Leaton, Diane Greer, Ruben Leaton, Laura Green (Ray), Teresa Chavez (George), Alex Leaton and Cecelia Leaton. His grandchildren; Michelle Robertson (Roy), Suzette Sherrie Gonzalez (Abel), Valerie Leaton (Theo), John Patrick Leaton (Angel), Joshua Chavez, Amy Chavez, Alexandra Leaton, Jeremy Leaton (Julienne) and Ashlee Green. His great grandchildren; Zephaniah Robertson, Hannah Robertson, Amiah Leaton, Josiah Leaton, Mariah Leaton, Noah Leaton Smith, and one blessing due June 2015. He is also survived by his favorite cousin, Lupe Romero. Ignacio was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church Men’s Club, the Holy Name Society during its early years, working alongside his wife for the annual fiestas, fair booths, and church plays. He was an active member of the church and an usher up to the time of his illness. He was a little league baseball coach/manager, Boy Scout Troop Leader 95, and served in the NM National Guard Air Force. He loved to bake and make candy; his passion early on was making breads, cinnamon rolls, wine making and pastries. He would plan his holiday baking/making to see what he would send off for friends and loved ones. He was known for his toffee and would have family always request it. He loved to work in his yard and rescue pets; he would say he didn’t want to see anyone or thing need food or be hungry. He would feed all the strays in the neighborhood; from cats, to dogs and the birds. He loved watching his classic movies, baseball and golf. Nacho was a story teller; he loved to tell his family and friends of the good ol’ days; when “Sody” pops were a nickel and you could go to the movies for a quarter. He was preceded in death by his parents; Ignacio Leaton Sr., Annie Molina, his wife Cora Leaton, children Ruben Leaton and Laura Green; brothers; Antonio, Raymond and Albert Hidalgo, Luciano Leaton, sisters Gloria Chavez and Mary Bartlett, numerous uncles, aunts, cousins family and friends, brother in laws and sister in laws. Ignacio was a member of the Teamsters and retired as a truck driver for ICX for many years until he got hurt; he then worked as a security guard, glazier and groundskeeper. Pallbearers to assist in laying “Nacho” to rest are: John Patrick Leaton, Joshua Chavez, Jeremy Leaton, Norma Archuleta, Jaime Rullan and Bryan Corn. Honorary pallbearers are his wife’s brothers; Raymond Aragon, Joe Aragon, Efrem Aragon, Robert Aragon, Frankie Aragon, and his great grandsons; Zephaniah Robertson, Josiah Robertson and Noah Smith The family would like to thank the caring staff at ENMMC during his illness and stay, especially the ICU team.
