Joel Rutten

On February 24, 1957, Joel (Joey) Rutten was born to Jack Jerome Rutten and Juliette Rutten in El Paso, Texas. He attended Eastwood High School, in El Paso Texas. Joel attended the University of Texas at El Paso, where he played football. Joel became the soulmate of Teri Wier on May 12, 2007. Prior to retirement Joel worked for Great Western Properties and Strathmann Investments, LP. Then moved to Ruidoso, NM where he was a Real Estate Broker, and owner of Tierra Del Sol Condominiums. Upon retirement, he moved to Dexter, NM where he became a grandpa. Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Joel are his soulmate Teri Wier, sister Nannette Miller, husband Greg Miller, brother Jon Rutten, Steven Foster, wife Sara Foster, Adam Foster, wife Kathy Foster. Grandchildren Jacob Foster, Gabriel Foster, Joel Foster, Couper Foster, Cash Foster, Jakob Bejarano, Jonah Bejarano, Lissa Pilley Davalos and husband Jonathan Davalos. Great grandchildren Ian Foster and Izzy Davalos. Nephew Nick Miller, wife Dianne Miller, great niece Lauren Miller, niece Juliette (Joey) Miller Castleberry, great nephews Jensen and Remington Castleberry, niece Greggorie (Babydoll) Miller, nephew Beauregard Miller, wife Nicole Miller, nephew Levi Miller, wife Savannah Miller. Joel is preceded in death by his parents Jack Jerome Rutten and Juliette Rutten, and his brother Jack Rutten. Joel loved playing golf. He was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys enthusiast and had an infectious enthusiasm for football and unwavering support for his team. Beyond sports, Joel showcased his versatile skills by transforming spaces. He worked tirelessly on the farmhouse in Dexter, infusing it with new life and character. Additionally, he dedicated himself to remodeling the townhouse in Ruidoso. Moreover, Joel was an incredible cook, family dinners and date nights with friends left everyone wondering what he was going to come up with next. He was known for his vibrant spirit, dependability, and love for family. He was a bad-ass guy. When we asked the grandkids how they would describe Big Joel, they said he was the best grandpa, strong, talented, funny, and kind. He was like a father to his grandchildren and was someone you could always rely on. He always did the right thing and was the most amazing loving man. Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Jacob Foster, Gabriel Foster, Joel Foster, Couper Foster, Cash Foster, Jakob Bejarano, Jonah Bejarano, Ian Foster, Steven Foster, Adam Foster, and Nick Miller. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who know him. Joel will be honored with an old-fashioned potluck supper on January 12, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Archive Venue 112 W. 3rd, Dexter, NM. Bring your favorite dish to share and wear your football jersey (if you have one) and let’s celebrate his life.
