Josie Vigil

Memorial services for Josie Cruz Vigil, 76, of Roswell will be held at 2 pm Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 1718 North Atkinson with Minister and Friend Alfonso Rodriguez officiating. Josie fell asleep in death on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, after battling Alzheimer’s disease for ten years. Josie was born on October 9, 1930 to Miguel and Luz Cruz in Kingsbury, Texas. She was a loyal wife, beloved mother, protective grandmother, and long-suffering, self-sacrificing, humble, caring, loving, hardworking, and industrious woman. We can’t describe our mother any better than with the Apostle Paul’s words found in Titus 2:3-5, describing an ideal Christian woman, “Likewise let the aged women be reverent in behavior, not slanderous, neither enslaved to a lot of wine, teachers of what is good; that they may recall the young women to their senses to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sound in mind, chaste, workers at home, good, subjecting themselves to their own husbands, so that the word of God may not be spoken of abusively.” Proverbs chapter 31 speaks of a capable wife whose value far exceeds that of corals, one who cared well for her household, and does not partake of the bread of laziness. For all those who know and love Josie Vigil they can say with confidence that each of those twenty-two verses fit grandma, Josie, perfectly. Josie lived her life to honor Jehovah God and thus her life was lived unselfishly for those she loved – her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. Josie is survived by her children, Orlando Vigil and his wife, Gloria, Debbie Vigil and her husband, Uvaldo Valenzuela, Sara Vandenbout and her husband, Roe, Febe Vigil and her husband, David Gaumond, and Rebeca Gallegos and her husband, Jose; fourteen grandchildren, Orlando Vigil Jr., Jacob Vigil, Nadia Valenzuela, Brent Kingsley, Damian Valenzuela, Ropey, Lacey, and Salea Vandenbout, Tania and Joshua Mendoza, Reyes, Zach, Demetrio, and Carlos Gallegos; seven great-grandchildren, Gian, Korbyn, Ronnin, Jaydn, Orian, Taye and Ariyah; three sisters, Lola Marroquin, Eva Garcia, and Elena Escobedo; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Josie was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel Cruz and Luz Silva, brother, Pedro Cruz, husband, Demetrio Vigil Jr. and son, Demetrio Vigil III.
