Joyce Everitt McBride Ryg, 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, in Roswell, NM. Please take a moment and share a kind thought or memory with Joyce's family at www.andersonbethany.com. The 4th of 11 children, Joyce was born to Chris and Ema Olson in Litchville, North Dakota. After growing up in the wheat fields of ND, she chose to attend Mercy School of Nursing in Valley City, ND. Later, she obtained her Bachelor of Nursing from Eastern New Mexico University. Joyce's career took her from North Dakota to Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico. She eventually became the Supervisor of the Surgical Suite at the new Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, from the time it opened, until the merger with St. Mary's Hospital. Joyce’s love of nursing was life long, and she considered it her calling. In her career, she helped thousands of people. PRECEDED: Joyce had three children, two who preceded her in death. Following the death of her first husband, Frank, she married Gerald McBride and following his death, married Wayne Ryg, who also preceded her in death. SURVIVORS: Joyce's survivors include: her son, Frank Everitt; grandsons: Jason and Kevin Everitt; five of her brothers and sisters; numerous nieces; nephews; grandchildren; and a special friend, Marti Everitt. Joyce was recognized by the State of New Mexico for the outstanding volunteer work she did for many organizations in the state. She was constantly interrupted by the phone, fielding requests for her help, and she always stepped up to the plate. SERVICES: Arrangements are in the care of Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. Joyce's cremated remains will be taken to North Dakota, where her family will gather together to scatter her cremains at the family cemetery, in the beautiful fields of Southeastern North Dakota. The family would like to thank the caregivers on the Memory Care Unit of Avamere, who provided gentle care for Joyce’s last two years, and the staff of ENMMC and Casa Maria, who helped her through her last few weeks of life. MEMORIALS: Donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation would be gratefully appreciated, in lieu of flowers. Joyce’s tribute was lovingly written in her honor by her family.
