Marcelino V Campos

MARCELINO V CAMPOS died peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2020, at 95 years of age. He was born on January 16, 1925, in Grandfalls, Texas, to Marcelo and Gregoria (Valencia) Campos. Marcelino served in the US Army and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon. After discharge from the Army, he returned home and married his sweetheart Rosie (Rosa) Otero, on August 3, 1947. They were married for 70 years. Marcelino was a mechanic and truck driver for Holsum Baking Company for many years, with routes to El Paso, Carlsbad, Las Cruces, as well as Clovis and Fort Sumner. He was excited to tell family and friends that he had had the opportunity to pull the longest trailer in New Mexico. Later, Marcelino went on to work for Ray Bell Oil Company until his health began to fail. He enjoyed visiting and joking with family, friends, customers, and children alike so much that one day a neighborhood child knocked on our door and asked if 'Mr. Campos could come out and play.' He will be missed by many. He is survived by two sons: David Campos of Roswell, NM, and Daniel (Linda) Campos of El Paso, TX; three daughters: Linda (Oscar) Barr of Fort Worth, TX, Darlene (Steve) Gonzales of Roswell, NM, and Loretta (Michael) O'Neil of Roswell, NM; nine grandchildren: Bradley Biggers, Mark Gonzales, Carolyn (Joshua) Cambridge, Dilauda Williams, Tracey O'Neil, Ashley (Chase) Rueffer, Kyle O'Neil, Stephanie (Connor) Walker, and Preston Barr; five great-grandchildren: Rocky Chipps, Halle, Josie, and Lyza Cambridge, and Lexi Walker; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Marcelino is also survived by one sister, Trinidad (Deke) Thomas of Riverside, CA; two brothers: Ismael Campos of Roswell, NM, and Isaias Campos of Tucson, AZ. Marcelino was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosie (Rosa) Otero; parents, Marcelo and Gregoria (Valencia) Campos; one son, Roger; five brothers: Francisco, Leonardo, Virginio, Sylvestre, and Daniel; and one sister, Guadalupe. His family would like to especially thank the Hospice staff for their kindness and care over the past year. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at South Park Cemetery. Chaplain Chris Lethgo will be officiating. Friends and guests are invited to 2504 Cornell Drive following the service to share their memories with the family. Marcelino’s tribute was lovingly written in his honor by his family.
