Mary Ortega Garcia passed away peacefully at her home on March 21, 2024, in Roswell, New Mexico. Please take a moment to share a kind thought or memory with Mary’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. There will be a viewing at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at South Park Cemetery. A food gathering will be held after services at Beginnings, located at 3908 SE Main St, Roswell, NM 88203. Mary was born on December 26, 1944, in Pecos, Texas to Guadalupe and Cleofas Ortega. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and a woman of many talents. During her high school years, Mary worked at the Carlsbad Laundry Matt. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1961 and after graduating she worked at Guadalupe Medical Center, Kmart, Mrs. Richardson, TMC, Levi Strass and Viola Nora and Sewing. Mary was a hard worker and also worked for Carlsbad and Roswell School District where she was a teacher. She loved gardening, cooking, and most of all taking care of her husband, kids and grandchildren. Mary is survived by siblings: Lucy Tovar and husband Pete Tovar, Celia Palomino, Oliva Ortega, Alicia Castillo, Margie Ortega, Anita Castillo, Adan Ortega and wife Myra Ortega; her husband of 62 years Joe Garcia; children: Joseph O. Garcia and companion Norma Montez, Orlando Garcia, Tammy Romo and husband Michael Romo; grandchildren: Joseph and wife Samantha Garcia, Jack Daniel, Joshua and companion Lynette, Jacob and wife Monica Garcia Adam, Jody and wife Valeria, Gerald, Joe, Danielle, Isaiah and Mia; great grandchildren: Joseph Ш and companion Nadia, Jesse and companion Madison, Joey, Jesse, Jayden, Julian, Jayla, Jordan, Elijah, Luka, Aarion, Cesar, and Alanie; great-great grandchildren: Leilani and Joseph VI; step-grandchildren: Xavier, Vince, Gloria, Chris, Alissa, Lenevee and Sophia. Mary is preceded in death by her parents: Guadalupe and Cleofas Ortega; brother, Manuel Ortega; two great grandchildren: Joel and Gerald Jr. Honored Pall Bearers: Steven Garcia, Jay Garcia, Josh Garcia, Jacob Garcia, Josheph III Garcia, Adam Jaramillo, and Jody Garcia. “Don’t cry because it's over, smile because it happened. The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart. If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together, there is something you must always remember, I am always with you.” Mary’s tribute was lovingly written by her family.
