Norma Smith

With infinite sorrow, the family mourns the passing of Norma Smith on April 20, 2016 at the age of 90. She was born in Lovington, New Mexico to Little Claude Cox and Ila May Epps Cox on June 21, 1925. Being raised on a farm east of Lovington gave Norma a passion for being outdoors and a love of gardening. One of many great accomplishments in Norma’s life, is the founding of Roswell’s first credit bureau. She was a member of numerous local and state clubs and organizations. Norma was an avid collector of paintings and figurines as well. Norma is survived by her beloved husband, Howard Smith, whom she married in 1976 in San Francisco. Preceding Norma in death is her first husband, Homer Glover, whom she married in 1956 in Datil, NM. Loved ones who preceded Norma in death are: parents, Little Claude and Ila May Cox; sisters: Mavis Hartman, Amolene McIntosh; brothers, Herbert Cox, Kenneth Cox; and daughter, Mary Lynn Blythe. Those remaining to cherish Norma’s memory are: her precious poodle, Spike, step-sons, Vance Smith of Michigan, Tony Smith of Ohio, Craig Smith of Colorado, and step-daughter, Kim Williams of California. Additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Viewing will be April 23, 2016, 8:00AM to 5:00PM and April 24, 2016, 1:00PM to 5:00PM at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held April 25, 2016, 11:00AM at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home Chapel with Burial to follow at South Park Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Coll and Jim Parker. Those honored to serve as Pallbearers are: WP McIntosh, Jeff Jasper, Mark Beeman, Steve Cox, Eric Rittenhouse and Brian Milstead. The family would like to acknowledge the following Special Friends of Norma’s: Her Dog – SPIKE, Yolanda & Town Country Beauty Shop, Mona and Melissa (in home care givers and friends), Gentiva Hospice (caring for Norma and her family) and Visiting Angles.
