Raul Rivas, 66, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Roswell, New Mexico. Please take a moment to share a kind thought or memory with Raul’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. On April 25, 1959, Raul Rivas was born to Esperanza Chacon and Ramon Larenzo in Sateva, Chihuahua, Mexico. He married his wife Maria Rivas on July 14, 1983, in Sateva, Chihuahua, Mexico, then moved to Roswell, New Mexico and had 3 boys. Raul loved horses, from riding to racing them. He loved to go to the rodeo and even rode in some and won a few belts. He could sit for hours and spend time with his best friends, whether it was hours of watching rodeos on TV with Rudy or hours of talking and reminiscing with Polo. Raul also enjoyed watching baseball, from time to time. In his younger days he enjoyed boxing, he and his wife would go out dancing, and especially loved going to the casinos and horse races together. He loved to sit outside with his family, especially cooking out and listening to music. Raul worked in the agriculture industry, working with farming and livestock all his life; he was a hard worker that always provided for his wife and three sons. One of his favorite things to do was play “box” with his great-grandson Joseph; it would always start with him pretending to spit on his hands and say, “let’s fight” and then would call him “Oscar De La Hoya” these are memories that Joseph will carry forever. Raul is survived by his wife, Maria Rivas; children, Raul Rivas, George Rivas, and Anthony and his wife, June Rivas; grandchildren, Ray Rivas, Reina Rivas, Felix, Texas, and Nort Contreras, Love Rivas, Leilani Salazar, Christina Sierra, and Esmerelda Lopez; great-grandchildren, Adealy and Joseph Lopez, and Braylen and Jaziel Sierra; siblings, Adriana, Felipa, Jordana, Rufina, Soledad, Rosa, Faustina, and Lerenzo; and close friends, Rodolfo “Rudy” Chairez and Polo Barron. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Lerenzo and Esperaza Chacon; siblings, Oralia, Librado, Ramon, and Reymundo; his “favorite” uncle, Agustin “Sateva” Martinez; and grandson, Joseph Lopez. Honorary pallbearers for Raul’s service will be Rodolfo “Rudy” Chairez and Polo Barron.
