Rita Thomas

A Memorial service for Rita Thomas, 59, of Roswell, will be held Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 2 pm at St. Johns the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Juan Montoya O.F.M. officiating. Rita passed away April 30, 2009 at her home. Rita was born March 14, 1950 to Raymond Savedra in Columbus, Ohio. Rita lived most of her life in Roswell. She was a certified dental assistant. Rita was a very free spirited person, who considered her children to be the love of her life. She enjoyed painting, coloring, reading and especially writing scriptures from the bible. Rita always said “I have lived many places, but Roswell will be my final place”. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her two sons; James Thomas and John Thomas Jr. and Jennifer of Portland, OR. two daughters; Raquel Jefferson and Elizabeth of California, two brothers; Leo, Ralph and Charlie of California, two sisters Maria Shifflett and her husband Jeff of Ohio, and Gloria Lara of CA, one niece; Carmen Lara also of CA, one aunt; Mary Solis, numerous cousins and her legacy lives on through her five grandchildren. Rita was preceded in death by her father; Ray Savedra, one sister; Joann and one grandson. I’m Free Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me, I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all, I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of the day, If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, all these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I’ve savored much, good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.
