Ronald Eugene Harrison, “Gene,” 72, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021, in Roswell, NM. Gene was born on March 17, 1949, in San Jose, CA, to Doyle and Helen Harrison. He was the second to the youngest of five siblings: Harvey Harrison, Beverly Hoffman, Janice Estep, and Sandy Stacy. With being an “Army Brat,” Gene was allowed to travel to many places, including Germany, where he graduated high school. He would often reminisce about fond memories of his past, where he lived, and the people he met along the way. Gene loved being a nurse. In his 31-year nursing career, he took great care of many patients at St. Mary’s Hospital and Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Many have expressed Gene’s kind nature and going the extra mile when he was on shift. Gene also loved his “four-legged friends,” always speaking fondly of his pets, including Penny and Grimace. An eternal bachelor, Gene never married or had any children of his own. He often stated that he couldn’t love his niece’s: Charlie Lawson and Stevie Considine, and nephew, Ray Farmer any more than his own. Gene continued to share that love to his great-niece’s: Alexandra Lawson and Erin Considine, and great-nephew’s: Foxx Lawson and Ezra Danley. Gene was an avid reader and was always in the middle of a “good” book. He loved mystery novels, biographies, Christmas stories, and Reader’s Digest. A way to a man’s heart is food, and that was definitely the case for Gene. He was an excellent cook and thoroughly enjoyed being in the kitchen. Gene always admired his mom’s culinary skills and loved sharing memories related to family recipes and traditions. Gene loved music! He enjoyed many genres, including country, ABBA, Patsy Cline, and good ‘ol 60’s and 70’s tunes. Gene was a great friend and a wonderful listener. He stayed in touch with those he loved, always checking in by phone, usually with a cup of coffee close by. He was supportive, encouraging, and genuinely happy for other’s successes. True to his birthday, Gene was a leprechaun. He loved playing pranks and making people laugh. Gene had a great sense of humor and a beautifully, mischievous smile. You knew Gene liked you if he would refer to you as “Stink.” Gene has left many memories that will be forever-cherished and will be missed dearly by many. Uncle Gene, we will continue to make you proud. We promise to carry on the family traditions, treat others with respect, find happiness and always watch the dance sequence at the end of Footloose twice.
