Virginia C. Gonzales

Virginia C. Gonzales, age 66, of Roswell, NM, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2019, in her home, surrounded by the comfort and love of her family. She was born on May 13, 1953, in Roswell, NM, to Juan and Sally Calzada. Virginia was a life-long Roswell resident. She found great joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her best memories included having everyone in the kitchen, cooking, and washing dishes, with music always in the background. This frequently evolved into dance parties and lots of laughing. She enjoyed many fun vacations with her family, with lots of adventures. Virginia loved with her whole heart and she was the best Nana to her grandchildren. Preceding Virginia in death were her parents, Juan and Sally Calzada; grandmother, Tiodora Canada; brother, Jessie Calzada; numerous aunts and uncles: including Rumaldo Rios, Christobal and Modesta Rios, Ermalinda and Pete Lopez, Josefa Salas, Noemi Rios, and Jesus Garza. Virginia had three children, Angela Lucero-Horton, Jimmy G. Lucero Jr, and Rebecca Armendariz. In 2007, Virginia married Celestino Gonzales and together they adopted Sophia Gonzales. Surviving Virginia is her husband, Celestino Gonzales; children: Angela Lucero-Horton and her husband Paul of Albuquerque, NM, Jimmy G. Lucero Jr. and his wife Amy of Lubbock, TX, Rebecca Armendariz of Roswell, NM, Sophia Gonzales of the family home; children (grandchildren): Augustine Lucero, Miguel Garcia, Nicolette Brito; grandchildren: Paul David Horton, Annelise Lucero, Lily Burt, Celia Horton, Avery Lucero; sister, Emily Sanchez; brother, Ben Calzada; sister-in-law, Sylvia Calzada; numerous nephews and nieces; aunts and uncles: including Olivia Perez, Martina Garza, Amada and George Morales and Joe Calzada; very special friends Cheryl Vibbard, Nancy Grajeda, and Kim Travis, whom she wanted to thank for always being there for her. My mom also wanted to thank her sister, Emily Sanchez, for always being there and helping with the kids throughout the journey. She said she could not have done it without you. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice nurses, Roberta and Dolly, for providing such great care during my mom’s illness. We would also like to thank the UNM Cancer Center, specifically Dr. Dayao, Dr. Prabhakaran, Dr. Shetty, and Dianne Nielsen (nurse navigator) for their compassionate care during her treatment. Services will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Friday, December 20, 2019, at 1:00 PM. Services will be officiated by Pastor Tim Aguilar of Church on the Move. Burial service will follow at South Park Cemetery. Virginia’s tribute was beautifully written in her honor by her family.
